Pokhara

Pokhara is the second largest city of Nepal.Located in the center of Kaski district Pokhara is the headquarter of the western development region ,Gandaki zone as well as Kaski district.It is popular to many as a tourist destination and is home to the gorkhali soldiers.
Pokhara is also known as the Cherapunji of Nepal as this region receives a significant amount of rainfall.This city has sub-tropical climate however the temperature is moderate.The range of altitude is very high here due to which there is difference in temperature even within the city.Three of the ten highest mountains of the world ie Annapurna 1,Dhaulagiri and Manaslu are all within 30 miles of the city.This city is also the base for trekkers undertaking the Annapurna Circuit.
Machhapuchhre is the mountain that can be seen from anywhere in Pokhara.The Seti Gandaki and its tributaries cover the city which have created many eye catching gorges and canyons.This region has many big as well as small lakes.Begnas lake popular for fishery is located in the southeast of Pokhara while the Phewa Tal acts as the southern border.
Locally known as Pokchu,Pokhara is the residence for different ethnicities like Khas,Gurung,Magar and Newar.Mostly Hindus reside here but there are also some Buddhist and Muslim communites.The Bindhyabasini Temple is one of the most visited temples of Pokhara.The world Peace Pagoda has also attracted many tourists here.
Pokhara is the second most expensive city after Kathmandu.It is an important trade route between India and Tibet.The people have opted agriculture,fishery,trade and business as their main occupations along with many involved in the tourism industry.Tourists from all over the world are attracted to Pokhara due to its multiple features.From pilgrimage to sight seeing to trekking,tourists come here for different purposes.The potentiality of adventure tourism has been fully implemented with the activities like paragliding,bungee jumping,skydiving,canyoning and rock climbing along with trekking being made available.Altitude Marathons and cycling held annually have increased the flow of tourists here.
Caves like Mahendra Gupha(House of Bats)and Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave are unique to many.The Devis Fall and the Seti gorge are also highly witnessed.The Gurkha Museum reflects the rich history of the bravery of the Gorkhas.Sarangkot has been the magnet to attract trekkers with the viewing of the Annapurna Range.The Lakeside is the popular tourist destination where small shops ,restaurants,hotels and bars are foun in abundance.Pokhara has strictly followed its motto of 'Clean Pokhara,Green Pokhara'.Truly,for Pokhara Once is not Enough.
